Some of you wrote about a new lactose sensitivity that showed up later in life. Some of you are eating more plant-based by choice. Some of you just wanted to know it could genuinely be done without losing what made the original book work.

I will be honest with you: this edition took more care than the Guilt-Free Treats books did. Those were about texture and flavour. This one is about protein, and plant sources of protein do not behave like eggs and Greek yogurt — they don’t bind the same way, and gram for gram most of them carry less protein.

So I leaned on aquafaba — the liquid from a tin of chickpeas — for the binding and lift eggs used to provide. I used soy yogurt and silken tofu in place of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, since soy carries more protein than most other plant milks and yogurts. And in the baked recipes I added a scoop of plant protein powder directly into the batter — not as a garnish, but as a real ingredient doing real work, to make sure what comes out of the oven still deserves to be called a protein dessert.

I re-tested every recipe in this edition in my own kitchen. Aquafaba behaves differently from eggs, and I was not going to hand you a recipe I had not actually made work myself.

Where The Protein Comes From Here

Aquafaba, silken tofu and soy yogurt. Nut and seed butters. Almond and oat flour. Chickpeas, lentils, pumpkin and hemp seeds. Oats. And, in the baked recipes, plant protein powder worked into the batter.

That last one is a change from the other books in this series, and it is worth saying plainly rather than burying: the original Protein Desserts After 50 promises no protein powder, because eggs and dairy carry the protein there. Take those out and the promise cannot be kept honestly in every recipe. So in this edition the powder is listed as what it is — an ingredient, named on the page, in the recipes that need it.

What’s Inside

✓ 50 Recipes, every one vegan as written

✓ Protein Puddings & Mousses

✓ Ice Creams & Frozen Treats

✓ Muffins For Every Occasion

✓ Cakes & Loaves

✓ Cookies & Bars

✓ Breakfast Favorites

✓ Plant-Based Protein Pantry Guide

✓ Shopping Lists, Storage Tips, Baking Tips

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this one use protein powder?
Yes, in the baked recipes — and it is listed in the ingredients where it is used. Without eggs and dairy there is no honest way to call these protein desserts otherwise. The no-bake recipes get their protein from nut butters, seeds, tofu and soy yogurt.

Is this just the original book with swaps listed at the back?
No. Every recipe is written out in its vegan form and was re-tested. Aquafaba does not behave like an egg, so several methods changed, not just the ingredient lists.

What is aquafaba?
The liquid from a tin of chickpeas. You already have it; most people pour it down the sink. Whipped, it does much of what an egg white does.

Is it gluten-free?
Not all of it. Many recipes are built on almond and oat flour, but each recipe lists its ingredients plainly so you can check before you bake.

Are the recipes difficult?
No. Most need a bowl, a fork and an oven. The instructions are written plainly and were tested in a real kitchen, not a professional one.

Can I get it as a printed book?
Yes.
