Payment Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This page explains how payment works when you order from Elisabeth Says: which payment methods you can use, in which currency you are charged, when your payment is taken, how your payment details are protected and what happens if something goes wrong with a charge. If anything is unclear, write to us at elisabeth@elisabethsays.com and we will help you personally.
1. Accepted payment methods
We accept the following payment methods:
- Credit and debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express and UnionPay
- Digital wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay
- PayPal
- Klarna
- Local payment methods: Bancontact (Belgium), BLIK (Poland), MB WAY (Portugal) and MobilePay (Denmark and Finland)
Not every payment method is available in every country or currency. The checkout automatically shows the methods that are available for your location and order. Apple Pay and Google Pay only appear on devices and browsers that support them.
Klarna
Where available, Klarna lets you pay later or spread your payment, depending on the options Klarna offers in your country. Klarna is a separate payment provider: whether a Klarna option is offered to you is decided by Klarna, and the repayment terms are set out in Klarna's own terms, which you see and accept during checkout. If you have a question about a Klarna payment schedule, please contact Klarna directly. For questions about your order itself, you can always contact us.
PayPal
When you choose PayPal, you are redirected to PayPal to log in and confirm the payment, and then returned to our store to complete your order. Your PayPal login details are entered on PayPal's own pages and are never shared with us.
Shop Pay
Shop Pay is Shopify's secure express checkout. It saves your details with Shopify so that future checkouts are faster. Your details are stored by Shopify, not by us.
2. Prices and currency
Our prices are set in US dollars. When you visit our store from outside the United States, prices are shown and charged in your local currency where that currency is supported, converted at the current exchange rate. The total shown at checkout is the amount you are charged for your order.
If your card or account is in a different currency from the one shown at checkout, your bank or card issuer may apply its own conversion rate or a foreign transaction fee. These fees are set by your bank, not by us, and we have no control over them.
Any applicable taxes are calculated and shown at checkout before you confirm your payment. Delivery of printed books is free, so no shipping costs are added to your order.
3. One-time payments only
Every purchase in our store is a one-time payment. We do not sell subscriptions or memberships, and we never charge you again after your order unless you place a new order yourself.
4. When your payment is taken
Your payment is charged when you place your order. Once the payment has been confirmed, you receive an order confirmation by email.
- Digital books are sent to the email address you entered at checkout as soon as your payment has been confirmed.
- Printed books are printed to order and shipped after your payment has been confirmed. Delivery times are explained in our Shipping Policy.
Occasionally a payment needs extra verification by your bank or the payment provider. In that case your order is processed as soon as the payment has been approved.
5. Payment security
Our store runs on Shopify, and all payments are processed by Shopify Payments or by the provider you choose at checkout, such as PayPal or Klarna. These providers meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the security standard set by the major card networks.
- Your card details are entered on a secure checkout page and transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- We never see, receive or store your full card number or security code.
- Your bank may ask you to confirm a card payment through 3-D Secure, for example with a code or in your banking app. This is an extra security step from your bank and helps protect you against unauthorised use of your card.
We will never ask you to send card details or passwords by email, phone or social media. If you receive a message like that claiming to be from us, please do not respond and let us know at elisabeth@elisabethsays.com.
6. Declined or failed payments
If your payment is declined, your order is not placed and you are not charged. Payments are usually declined for one of these reasons:
- The card details, billing address or security code do not match the details held by your bank.
- The 3-D Secure verification was not completed.
- Your card has insufficient funds, has expired or is blocked for online or international payments.
Please check your details and try again, choose a different payment method, or contact your bank. If you see a pending amount on your account after a failed payment, this is a temporary authorisation that your bank releases automatically, usually within a few business days.
7. Receipts and invoices
Your order confirmation email serves as your receipt. It lists the products you ordered, the price you paid and the payment method used. If you need an invoice with your company name or a different billing address, email us your order number and the details you want on the invoice and we will send it to you.
8. Incorrect prices and order cancellations
We take care to show correct prices. If a product is listed at an obviously wrong price because of an error, we may cancel the order. In that case we let you know by email and refund the full amount you paid to your original payment method.
9. Refunds
Refunds are always made to the payment method you used for your order. Once we have processed a refund, the time it takes to appear in your account depends on your bank or payment provider, and is usually 5 to 10 business days. Klarna refunds are processed through Klarna and are reflected in your Klarna account or payment schedule.
Which purchases are eligible for a refund, and how to request one, is explained in our Refund Policy.
10. A charge you do not recognise or a double charge
If you see a charge from us that you do not recognise, or you believe you were charged twice for the same order, please email us at elisabeth@elisabethsays.com with the date and amount of the charge. We check every request and, if we made an error, we refund the incorrect amount straight away. Contacting us first is usually much faster than a dispute through your bank.
